Gratitude isn't just about being grateful for what you have - whether that is physical objects, people in your life, or philosophical experiences - it's also about receiving - receiving the gratitude and love from others as well.
The beautiful thing about gratitude is that it expands. It's like acts of kindness. When you buy a cup of coffee for the car behind you at Starbucks, chances are good, that person will either pay it forward to the car behind them - Or maybe the car behind you is having a rotten day and you buying them a cup of coffee just turned their mood around. My point is, by GIVING you are sharing the feeling with someone else. This radiates out like a pebble hitting the water of a pond.
The other side of giving is receiving. Most people are better at giving than receiving. When someone gives you a compliment, do you accept it as a gift? A gift of a kind word that they are sharing with you. Keep that in mind the next time someone shares something with you - whether that is a compliment, a cup of coffee at Starbucks or holding the door open for you.

Until next time,
